Host Based Security System (HBSS) Engineer (Job Number: 405479)
Description:
Most Critical Element: Performs system administration on HBSS servers and integrates HBSS data (alerts, logs, data feeds, etc.) into existing monitoring, detect, and respond processes, procedures (intrusion detection analysis, auditing, etc.) and systems.
Other critical elements:
Responsible for maintaining HBSS within the DISN-OSS and ensuring its compliance with security requirements set forth by U.S. Cyber Command, the Field Security Office and local security agencies.
Responsible for configuring, integrating, operating, and maintaining the HBSS components (ePolicy Orchestrator, McAfee Agent, Host Intrusion Prevention System, Policy Auditor, Asset Baseline Monitor, Virus Scan Enterprise) on Windows, Solaris, and Linux systems as well as its integration points with an enterprise Operational Support System (OSS)
Must be able to work independently to troubleshoot, isolate and identify problems with the HBSS
Deploy and sustain the full capabilities of the HBSS to all enterprise-wide managed systems including, but not limited to agent deployments, policy enforcement, reporting and compliance
Provide expert level guidance in all aspects of HBSS support to include account setups, port enabling, deploy and load agents, deploy and load policies, deploy and load modules and overall monitoring
Monitors HBSS for alerts and assess/modify the HBSS operational parameters (filters, signatures, rules, etc.) when requested. Monitor for and ensure Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG) compliance, security, and performance
Perform vulnerability scans as well as troubleshoot and fix scan issues. Review scan results and provide recommendations to system administrators and IA team
Secondary elements:
Stays up-to-date with industry current issues with respect to IT vulnerabilities including researching latest findings, industry trends, and vendor-specific issues and resolutions
Gathers requirements from other operational teams, customers, and management
Researches and tests configurations in order to determine the best solution to meet customer goals and objectives
Evaluates and recommends hardware and protocol alternatives to be used in the customer systems architecture.
Supports Information Assurance personnel to assure security architecture design and implementation is in accordance with DoD Regulations.
Qualifications: Required Education/Experience/Skills/Certifications:
Hands on experience in working with HBSS
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience
Meet DoD 8570 Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level II and SECNAV 5239.2 requirements within six months of hire.
